Chris Jones was an outfielder for the Mets in 1995 and 1996. He had a .263 batting average in 168 games with the team. Jones had 12 home runs and 140 total bases as a Met.

Jones signed with the Mets as a free agent after four major league seasons. In ’95, he batted .280 and had 33 runs scored. In his debut with the team on May 16, Chris had two singles and scored the game’s only run in a 1-0 Mets win at Houston. He hit a three-run homer in the tenth inning to give the Mets a 7-5 win over the Padres at Shea Stadium on May 31. Jones had a single, double and triple in a 9-6 Mets victory at San Francisco on June 8. At Florida on June 28, he singled and hit a three-run homer in the Mets’ 8-3 triumph over the Marlins. Chris homered in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Pirates on July 29 at Shea. He also had a single, a triple and two RBIs in an 11-6 Mets victory at San Francisco on September 3.

In ’96, Jones had 36 hits in 89 games played. He had four homers and eighteen RBIs for the year. In the season opener on April 1, Chris had an RBI single and scored the tying run in the Mets’ 7-6 comeback win over the Cardinals at Shea. He hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the tenth inning for an 8-6 Mets victory over the Reds on April 23 at Shea. Jones singled and drove in the winning run with a sixth-inning double in the Mets’ 4-3 victory over the Dodgers on June 1 at Shea. He had a two-run double in a 12-6 Mets win at Atlanta on June 4. Chris singled twice, had an RBI double and scored a run in the Mets’ 11-3 triumph at Montreal on July 6. He also hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the tenth to give the Mets a 3-2 victory over the Pirates on July 31 at Shea.

Jones joined the Padres as a free agent after the ’96 season. He played one year with the San Diego team and for the Giants and Diamondbacks in 1998. Chris spent the 1999 season with the Blue Jays’ AAA-level team in Syracuse and ended his time in the majors with the Brewers in 2000. He concluded his playing career with four years in minor and independent leagues. Jones was also a manager for minor and independent league teams from 2005 to 2008.
