Chico Fernandez was an infielder for the Mets in 1963. He had 29 hits, including 6 doubles and a home run, in 58 games played. Fernandez scored 12 runs and had 9 runs batted in as a Met.
Chico joined the Mets in a trade with the Milwaukee Braves on May 8, 1963. Eight days later, he hit his only Mets homer in a 6-5 loss at San Francisco. In the first game of a doubleheader on June 2, Fernandez went 3-for-3 in the Mets' 2-1 win over the Pirates. Chico was the last player ever to get a hit at the Polo Grounds in the Mets' 5-1 loss to the Phillies on September 18.
Fernandez was traded to the Chicago White Sox for Charley Smith on April 23, 1964.
