Charlie Williams was a pitcher for the Mets in 1971. He had a won-lost record of 5-6 with 53 strikeouts in his only season with the team. Charlie pitched 90 and one-third innings in 31 games for the Mets.
In '71, Williams recorded his first major league win on June 2. He pitched five innings of two-hit shutout relief as the Mets defeated the Giants, 5-2, at San Francisco. On June 22, he threw eight innings of scoreless ball and got the win in the Mets' 3-2 victory at Pittsburgh. Charlie pitched his first major league complete game on August 3 against the Reds, striking out eight batters in the Mets' 9-4 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium.
Williams began the 1972 season back in the minor leagues. On May 11, he was traded to the Giants for Willie Mays. Charlie pitched in 237 games over seven seasons for the San Francisco team, recording 18 wins and 4 saves. He ended his career in 1978.
