Charlie O'Brien was a catcher for the Mets from 1990 to 1993. He had 123 hits in 232 games played with the team. O'Brien drove in 59 runs as a Met.

O'Brien came to the Mets in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on August 30, 1990. He had 11 hits in 28 games over the rest of the '90 season. At Philadelphia on September 8, Charlie had two singles, a double and three RBIs in the Mets' 12-1 win. He had a two-run double and a sacrifice fly in a 10-8 Mets triumph over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium on September 11. O'Brien singled to drive in a run in the Mets' 6-3 victory on September 13 at Pittsburgh. He also had two singles and an RBI in a 7-3 Mets win at Chicago on September 23.

In 1991, O'Brien appeared in 69 games for the Mets. He had 43 total bases during the year. Charlie singled twice and doubled in the Mets' 7-1 victory at San Diego on May 15. He drove in three runs with a double and a sacrifice fly in a 9-4 Mets win over the Dodgers on July 21 at Shea. O'Brien had two singles and a two-run homer as the Mets defeated the Cardinals, 6-0, at Shea on August 22. He also hit a home run in a 3-2 Mets win on August 30 at Cincinnati.

Charlie had 33 hits in 1992. He doubled 12 times and drove in 13 runs for the season. At Montreal on April 17, O'Brien had two doubles and two RBIs in the Mets' 10-2 victory over the Expos. He singled and hit a two-run homer in an 8-7 Mets win on May 1 at Atlanta. Charlie had a double and a home run in the Mets' 12-1 triumph over the Reds at Shea on August 28. He also hit a three-run double with two outs in the 9th inning to give the Mets a 10-8 win on September 14 at Chicago.

O'Brien batted .255 with 71 total bases in the 1993 season. He had four home runs and 23 RBIs during the year. Charlie had a game-winning, two-run double in the 9th inning for a 5-4 Mets victory at Philadelphia on May 26. He homered in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 2-1 win on July 19 at San Diego. O'Brien had a single and a two-run double in the Mets' 9-5 win at Philadelphia on August 14. At Pittsburgh on September 22, he hit a two-run homer in the 10th for a 6-5 Mets victory over the Pirates.

O'Brien joined the Braves as a free agent in November of '93. He played for the Atlanta team in its World Championship season of 1995. Charlie spent time with the Blue Jays, White Sox and Angels for the rest of the 1990s. He ended his career with the Expos in 2000.
