Charlie Neal

Charlie Neal was an infielder for the Mets in 1962 and 1963. He batted .248 with 14 home runs and 76 runs batted in during his time with the team. Neal played in 208 games as a Met.

In '62, Neal had 132 hits for the season. In the Mets' first game ever at St. Louis on April 11, he had a home run and two singles with two RBIs. Charlie hit two home runs against the Phillies in the Mets' first home win on April 28. Neal also had a team-leading 9 triples for the year, but only on August 4 (when the Mets defeated the Reds, 3-2, in 14 innings) did he have a three-base hit in a Mets victory.

In 1963, Charlie hit .225 in 72 games with the Mets. He drove in three runs with a single and a double in the Mets' 8-5 victory over the Braves in the opener of a doubleheader at the Polo Grounds on April 21. Neal had four singles in the Mets' 10-3 win over the Houston Colt .45s on May 2 at the Polo Grounds. On May 7, he led off the first inning with a home run to lead the Mets to a 3-1 win over the Phillies. Charlie also homered in the Mets' 4-1 win at Cincinnati on June 15.

Neal was traded with Sammy Taylor to the Reds for Jesse Gonder on July 1, 1963. Charlie played in 34 games for Cincinnati over the rest of the '63 season to conclude his career.
