Carlos Mendoza was an outfielder for the Mets in 1997. He played in 15 games with the team. Mendoza had three singles and six runs scored as a Met.

In '97, Mendoza joined the Mets in September after playing in 69 games at AA-level Binghamton and AAA-level Norfolk. He scored three times as a pinch-runner between September 6 and September 12. At Shea Stadium on September 13, Carlos got a pinch-hit single for his first major league hit in the Mets' 9-6 victory over the Expos in 11 innings. He singled and scored a run in a 7-5 Mets win over the Pirates at Shea on September 24. Mendoza also hit a single in a season-closing 8-2 Mets victory over the Braves on September 28 at Shea.

Mendoza was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the expansion draft following the '97 season. He spent two seasons in the minor leagues and played in 13 games for the Rockies in 2000. Carlos played for the Saltillo Saraperos of the Mexican League in 2001. Five years later, he came out of retirement to play in 34 games with the Amarillo Dillas and Rio Grande Valley White Wings of the independent United Baseball League.
