Carl Everett was an outfielder for the Mets from 1995 to 1997. He had 231 hits in 322 games played with the team. Everett hit 27 home runs and drove in 127 runs as a Met.
Everett came to the Mets in a trade with the Florida Marlins in November of 1994. In the ’95 season, he batted .260 with 126 total bases. Carl had a single, double, homer and three runs scored in the Mets’ 5-4 win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium on April 29. He had three hits, three walks, three runs scored and five RBIs in a 12-10 Mets victory on August 8 at Philadelphia. Everett homered twice in the Mets’ 5-4 win over the Giants at Shea on August 21. He hit a grand slam in a 10-5 Mets triumph over the Padres on August 25 at Shea. Carl also had a single, a double and three-run homer in the Mets’ 6-2 victory at Montreal on September 10.
In 1996, Everett played in 101 games for the Mets. He collected 46 hits for 59 total bases during an injury-plagued season. Carl hit a double and a triple and scored two runs in a 5-4 Mets loss at St. Louis on June 16. He had an RBI single to put the Mets ahead to stay for a 9-6 win on July 5 at Montreal. Everett hit his only home run of the season in the Mets’ 10-3 win over the Astros at Shea on July 14. He drove in the winning run in the 10th inning for a 6-5 Mets victory over the Giants on September 1 at Shea. Carl also had the game-winning RBI in the Mets’ 3-2 triumph over the Dodgers in 12 innings at Shea on September 4.
Carl came back healthy in the 1997 season. For the year, he collected 110 hits (including 14 homers) and led the Mets with 17 stolen bases. At Shea on April 20, Everett hit a grand slam and a solo homer to lead the Mets to an 8-2 win over the Cubs. He hit a two-run single in a 7-0 Mets victory at Montreal on May 28. Carl had four singles, two doubles and two home runs in the Mets’ first ever interleague series against the Red Sox from June 13 to June 15 at Shea. He hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 12-9 victory over the Pirates at Shea on June 22. Everett singled to drive home the winning run in the 12th inning for a 3-2 Mets triumph over the Marlins on July 6 at Shea. He drove in four runs with two homers and a bases-loaded walk in a 5-3 Mets victory over the Reds on July 21 at Shea. Carl had a two-run single in an 8-5 Mets triumph at Houston in 10 innings on August 1. He also hit a game-tying grand slam to cap a six-run comeback in the ninth inning against the Expos at Shea on September 13. The Mets went on to win this game, 9-6, in the 11th.
On December 22, 1997, Everett was traded to the Houston Astros for pitcher John Hudek. He was a member of the Astros’ division championship teams in 1998 and 1999. Carl played for five major league teams during the 2000s. He concluded his career with the Seattle Mariners in 2006.
