Christopher John “C. J.” Nitkowski was a pitcher for the Mets in 2001. He appeared in five games with the team. Nitkowski pitched scoreless ball in five and two-thirds innings and recorded one win as a Met.
In the 2001 season, Nitkowski joined the Mets in a trade with the Detroit Tigers on September 1. In his Mets debut at Philadelphia two days later, he was the winning pitcher in a 10-7 victory over the Phillies for the 3,000th win in team history. C. J. also had three strikeouts against the Pirates at Shea Stadium on October 2.
Nitkowski became a free agent after the ’01 season. He pitched two years for the Texas Rangers and split the 2004 season between the Yankees and Braves. C. J. concluded his career with the Washington Nationals in 2005.
