Butch Metzger

Clarence Edward "Butch" Metzger was a pitcher for the Mets in 1978. He made 25 relief appearances for the team. Metzger recorded one win and 21 strikeouts as a Met.
Metzger joined the Mets from the St. Louis Cardinals just before the start of the '78 season. At Houston on May 27, he was the winning pitcher in a 9-7 Mets victory over the Astros. Butch pitched two scoreless innings in a 7-5 Mets loss to the Giants on June 11 at Shea Stadium. He also had three scoreless innings pitched in a 3-0 Mets defeat at Los Angeles on June 15.
Metzger was sold to the Phillies on July 4, 1978. He completed the season with the Phils' AAA-level team in Oklahoma City. Butch concluded his career with the Braves' AAA-level team in Richmond in 1980.
