Huskey began his major league career with the Mets in '93. On September 12, he got a single off the Cubs' William Brennan for his first major league hit. After playing at AAA-level Norfolk in 1994 and most of the 1995 season, Butch was recalled by the Mets. In '95, he played in 28 games for New York and hit his first major league home run off Hideo Nomo in the Mets' 5-3 win over the Dodgers at Shea Stadium on August 20.
In Butch's first full major league season in 1996, he hit .278 with 15 homers and 60 RBIs. At Shea on June 26, he had a game-winning double in the eighth inning in the Mets' 9-5 triumph over the Rockies. Huskey drove in the winning run with a ninth inning sacrifice fly for a 3-2 victory over the Phillies on July 17 at Shea. Against the Pirates on July 29, he homered twice in the Mets' 5-0 win. Butch missed most of the month of August with a knee injury before coming back in September, during which he got 18 hits in 21 games.
In 1997, Huskey had the most productive season of his career. He had 24 homers, 81 RBIs and a .287 batting average. He also had 26 doubles among his 135 hits. In a game in Atlanta on July 13, Butch and teammate Alex Ochoa each hit two home runs in the Mets' 7-6 win in 10 innings. Four days later, Butch got four hits, the last of which was a single that drove in the winning run in the tenth to give the Mets a 4-3 win over the Cubs at Shea. Huskey also had two homers and two singles in the Mets' 10-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Philadelphia on September 15.
Butch hit .252 in 113 games in 1998. He had 93 hits for the year, including 18 doubles and 13 home runs. On May 26, Huskey had two doubles and 5 RBIs in a 10-6 Mets victory over the Florida Marlins in Miami. Also at Florida, he hit a three-run homer in the Mets' 7-4 win on June 13. Butch also had four singles in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Expos on July 12 at Shea.
On December 4, 1998, Huskey was traded to the Seattle Mariners. He split the 1999 season between the Mariners and the Boston Red Sox. Butch also spent time with the Minnesota Twins and Colorado Rockies in his final major league season of 2000.
