Bruce Chen was a pitcher for the Mets in 2001 and 2002. He had three wins and 47 strikeouts with the team. Chen pitched 60 and one-third innings as a Met.
Chen was acquired by the Mets in a trade with the Phillies on July 27, 2001. He pitched in 11 games as a starter over the rest of the season. At Shea Stadium on August 7, Bruce pitched seven shutout innings and got the win in a 3-0 Mets victory over the Brewers. He pitched seven innings of three-hit ball and was the winning pitcher in a 4-3 Mets triumph over the Giants on August 24 at Shea. Chen recorded the win in a Mets' 7-5 victory over the Phillies at Shea on August 29. He also struck out five batters over seven innings in a no-decision in a 3-2 Mets win over the Braves on September 21 at Shea.
After one relief appearance in 2002, Chen was traded to the Montreal Expos on April 5. He split the '02 season between the Expos and the Cincinnati Reds. Bruce also pitched for the Red Sox, Astros, Orioles, Rangers and Royals over the rest of the 2000s.
