Bruce Benedict

Bruce Benedict was a coach for the Mets from 1997 to 1999. He served under manager Bobby Valentine during his three seasons on the team's staff.

A former major league catcher, Benedict had a .242 batting average with the Atlanta Braves from 1978 to 1989. He joined the Mets as a scout following the end of his playing career. Bruce was the manager for the Mets' AAA-level team in Norfolk in 1996. After his time as a team coach, he returned to his role as a scout. Bruce remianed with the Mets' organization until 2006.

In addition to his life in baseball, Benedict has also served as a college basketball referee. He began a career as an NCAA Division I official in '96.
