Brian McRae was an outfielder for the Mets from 1997 to 1999. He collected 248 hits for 419 total bases with the team. McRae played in 300 games as a Met.

McRae joined the Mets in a six-player trade with the Cubs on August 8, 1997. He hit .248 with five home runs and 15 runs batted in over the rest of the season. On the day of the trade, Brian made his Mets’ debut with two singles, a triple and two runs scored in a 6-1 victory over the Astros at Shea Stadium. He singled and homered in a 9-5 Mets win over the Padres at Shea on August 23. McRae had a pair of singles and scored three runs in the Mets’ 9-5 triumph over the Expos on September 11 at Shea. He also hit a grand slam in a 7-3 Mets victory at Florida on September 20.

In 1998, McRae hit 21 home runs and drove in 79 runs. He led the Mets with five triples and 20 stolen bases for the season. Brian had a single, three walks and two RBIs in a 14-0 Mets win at Cincinnati on April 19. He hit a three-run homer in the Mets’ 9-2 triumph over the Cardinals on May 8 at Shea. McRae had two singles, a double and a home run in an 8-6 Mets loss to the Reds at Shea on May 20. He doubled twice, homered and drove in three runs in a 6-0 Mets victory over the Phillies on July 17 at Shea. Brian had two singles, two doubles and a stolen base in the Mets’ 7-6 win over the Padres at Shea on July 29. He hit a two-run homer in a 3-2 Mets victory at Arizona on August 14. McRae also had a game-tying homer in the ninth inning and a two-run double in the 13th to give the Mets a 7-4 victory at Houston on September 14.

McRae had 104 total bases for the Mets in 1999. He had 35 runs scored and 36 RBIs with the team during the year. Brian had a run-scoring triple and scored twice in a 12-3 Mets win at Florida on April 6. He hit a grand slam in the Mets’ 9-4 victory over the Giants on May 1 at Shea. McRae had a three-run homer in an 8-3 Mets triumph at Pittsburgh on May 25. At Cincinnati on June 16, he drove in three runs with two singles in a 5-2 Mets victory.Brian singled, homered and had three RBIs in the Mets’ 10-0 win over the Expos on July 6 at Shea. He also doubled to drive in the first of six Met runs in the second inning en route to a 7-4 win at Montreal on July 22.

On July 31, 1999, McRae was traded to the Colorado Rockies. He played in seven games for the Rockies before being traded again to the Toronto Blue Jays. Brian completed the ’99 season with the Jays to conclude his major league career.
