Brett Butler was a center fielder for the Mets in 1995. He played in 90 games with the team. Butler batted .311 and scored 54 runs as a Met.

Butler joined the Mets as a free agent in his fifteenth major league season. He led the team with seven triples, 21 stolen bases and 43 walks in ’95. In his first game with the team on April 26, Brett had a single, a double, three walks and three runs scored in an 11-9 Mets loss in 14 innings at Colorado. He doubled twice in a 5-4 Mets win over the Cardinals on April 29 at Shea Stadium. Butler singled three times and drove in a run in the Mets’ 5-2 victory over the Braves at Shea on May 10. He drove in three runs with a single and a sacrifice fly in an 8-0 Mets triumph over the Padres on May 30 at Shea. Brett had two singles, two RBIs and a stolen base in a 10-4 Mets win over the Astros at Shea on June 18. He had an eight-game hitting streak in which he batted .526 (20-for-38) and hit his only Mets home run between July 13 to July 20. Butler also hit safely in ten straight games from July 22 and August 1, batting .421 during the stretch.

On August 18, 1995, Butler was traded to the Dodgers (with whom he had spent the previous four years) for a pair of minor league players. He played for the Los Angeles team until his retirement in 1997. Brett served as a manager for the Mets’ Rookie-level Gulf Coast team in 2004. He later managed in the Diamondbacks’ minor league system.
