Bobby Gene Smith

Bobby Gene Smith was an outfielder for the Mets in 1962. He appreared in eight games for the team in its inaugural season. Smith had a .136 batting average as a Met.
Smith joined the Mets after five seasons with the Cardinals and Phillies. He made his Mets debut as a pinch-hitter against the Pirates in the team's first home game ever on April 13. He singled for his first Mets hit against the Colt .45s on April 17 at the Polo Grounds. Bobby Gene also had a two-run triple in the Mets' 9-1 victory (the team's first win ever) at Pittsburgh on April 23.
On April 26, 1962, Smith was traded to the Chicago Cubs for catcher Sammy Taylor. He played in 13 games for the Cubs before finishing the season with the Cardinals. Bobby Gene ended his career with the California Angels in 1965.
