Bob Friend

Bob Friend was a pitcher for the Mets in 1966. He appeared in 22 games with the team. Friend had five wins and 30 strikeouts in 86 innings pitched as a Met.
Friend had a quality career with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1951 to 1965. He began the 1966 season with the Yankees before joining the Mets on June 15. At Chicago on June 24, Bob was the winning pitcher in a 4-2 Mets victory over the Cubs. He pitched a complete game shutout for a 3-0 Mets win at Los Angeles on July 22. Friend had seven innings pitched and got the win in the Mets' 3-2 triumph at Houston on July 27. He pitched three innings of shutout ball to close out an 8-7 Mets win over the Pirates on August 17 at Shea Stadium. Bob also pitched seven and two-thirds innings of relief for his final major league win in the Mets' 10-4 triumph over the Dodgers at Shea on August 30.
