Bob Bailor

Bob Bailor was an infielder for the Mets from 1981 to 1983. He played in 279 games and batted .266 in his three seasons with the team. Bailor scored 88 runs and had 69 runs batted in as a Met.
Bailor came to the Mets from the Toronto Blue Jays in a trade for Roy Lee Jackson on December 12, 1980. Bob began the 1981 season on the disabled list before hitting .284 in 51 games. On May 29, he singled home the Mets' first two runs in a 6-1 win over the Cubs at Shea Stadium. Against Hall of Famer Steve Carlton on September 16, Bob hit a two-run double and a single in the Mets' 5-4 win over the Phillies. Bob got his only triple of the strike-shortened season against the Pirates at Shea on September 22.
In 1982, Bailor had a .277 batting average in 110 games played. He had 14 doubles, 31 RBIs and 20 stolen bases for the season. On April 8 at Philadelphia, Bob had a single, two doubles and three RBIs in the Mets' 7-2 Opening Day win over the Phillies. He drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 15th inning for a 5-4 Mets win at San Diego on April 28. Bailor hit a two-run double in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 3-2 victory over the Padres at Shea on May 10. He drove in three runs in the Mets' 13-4 win over the Dodgers at Shea on May 16. At Chicago's Wrigley Field on August 3, Bob caught a ball hit by the Cubs' Larry Bowa to begin a triple play in the bottom of the eighth inning. He also scored four runs in the Mets' 9-1 victory at Pittsburgh on September 8.
Bob had 85 hits, 18 stolen bases and 33 runs scored in 1983. He hit his only home run as a Met in the team's 10-9 loss at Philadelphia on April 13. On June 9, his two-run double in the top of the 11th inning gave the Mets a 6-4 win over the Cubs. In the first game of a doubleheader against the Pirates on July 31, Bailor singled home the winning run in the 12th inning for a 7-6 Mets victory at Shea. Bob also had a single and double in the Mets' 6-run seventh inning that led to a 9-4 win at Chicago on August 5.
Bailor was traded with Carlos Diaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Sid Fernandez and Ross Jones on December 8, 1983. He played two years with the Dodgers to end his career. Bob later served on the Blue Jays coaching staff for their World Championship teams in 1992 and 1993.
