Billy Connors

Billy Connors was a pitcher for the Mets in 1967 and 1968. He appeared in 15 games with the team. Connors had 21 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched as a Met.
Connors joined the Mets from the Cubs on August 20, 1967. In his first game with the team two days later, he pitched two innings of an 11-4 Mets loss to the Phillies in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium. Billy had two scoreless innings of relief in a 6-0 Mets defeat in a doubleheader nightcap at St. Louis on August 28. As a starter in the second game of a twinbill at Chicago on September 2, he got a no-decision in the Mets' 5-4 win over the Cubs.
In 1968, Connors made nine relief appearances for the Mets. He pitched two and one-third scoreless innings in a 2-0 Mets loss to the Dodgers in the second game of a twinbill at Shea on August 4. He also and a pair of scoreless innings in a 4-3 Mets defeat at Houston on August 7.
Connors continued to pitch in the Mets' minor league system until 1970. He later went on to a coaching career that included managing the Mets' A-level team at Marion, Virginia in 1975. From 1980 to 2000, Billy served as a pitching coach for the Royals, Cubs, Mariners and Yankees.
