Bill Spiers was an infielder for the Mets in 1995. He played in 63 games with the team. Spiers had 15 hits and 11 runs batted in as a Met.
Spiers joined the Mets after six seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. He served as a utility second baseman and third baseman for the Mets in ’95. Bill had an RBI triple and scored a run in the Mets’ 9-8 loss at San Francisco on June 7. At Chicago on July 17, he drove in the winning run with a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning in an eventual 7-2 Mets victory over the Cubs. Spiers singled home the winning run in the ninth inning for a 3-2 Mets triumph over the Dodgers at Shea Stadium on August 18. He had an RBI single in a 5-4 Mets win over the Padres on August 24 at Shea. Bill also had three singles and three RBIs in the Mets’ 9-2 victory over the Reds in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea on September 27.
In 1996, Spiers joined the Houston Astros as a free agent. He played for the Houston team until his retirement in 2001.
