Bill Short

Bill Short was a pitcher for the Mets in 1968. He made 34 relief appearances for the team. Short had 24 strikeouts in 29 and two-thirds innings pitched as a Met.
Short pitched mostly in the minor leagues before joining the Mets for the 1968 season. On April 15, he pitched in the Mets' 1-0 loss in 24 innings at Houston. Bill retired Rusty Staub on a grounder back to the mound for the final out of a 5-3 Mets win over the Astros on June 20 at Shea Stadium. At Philadelphia on July 6, he retired the Phillies' Johnny Callison on an infield grounder with the tying runs on base to end the eighth inning of the Mets' 11-6 win. Short also pitched three scoreless innings in a 4-3 Mets loss at Philadelphia on September 21.
Following the '68 season, Short was taken by the Reds in the Rule V Draft. He pitched in four games with the Cincinnati team in 1969 to end his major league career.
