Bill Almon was a versatile infielder and outfielder in the major leagues from 1974 to 1988. He played 97 games for the Mets in 1980 and 1987, batting .193 with 8 runs batted in. Almon also played for the San Diego Padres, Montreal Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Philadelphia Phillies in the National League, as well as the Chicago White Sox and Oakland A's in the American League.

Almon signed with the Mets as a free agent on July 11, 1980. He got to bat 112 times during the year while playing shortstop, second base and third base. On July 19, Bill had his most productive day as a Met with three singles, a triple and four runs scored in the team's 13-3 win at Cincinnati. On August 10, Almon hit his only other triple of the season in the Mets' 4-1 win at St. Louis.

In 1987, Almon returned to the Mets in a trade with the Pirates for infielder Al Pedrique on May 29. Bill batted .241 in 49 games for the Mets in '87. His single in the ninth inning off Cubs' relief ace Lee Smith gave the Mets a 2-1 win on June 24.

Almon was traded by the Mets to the Phillies on March 21, 1988.
