1963: Jim Hickman hits a grand slam in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 7-3 win over the Cubs at the Polo Grounds. Roger Craig gets his first victory after 18 straight losses.
1974: The Mets defeat the Reds, 4-1, at Shea Stadium. Bob Apodaca pitches seven shutout innings and gets a run-scoring double.
1978: The Mets get 19 hits in a 10-3 win over the Expos at Montreal. Joel Youngblood goes 5-for-5 in the game.
1990: The Mets defeat the Phillies, 5-4, at Shea Stadium. A bench-clearing brawl in the fifth inning results in seven ejections. Kelvin Torve hits a two-run double in his first at bat as a Met to drive home the winning runs.
2005: In a game at San Diego's PETCO Park, Mets' third baseman David Wright makes an amazing bare-hand grab of pop fly hit by the Padres' Brian Giles.
2006: The Mets defeat the Padres, 4-3, in front of a crowd of 49,979 at Shea Stadium. In his return to New York, Mike Piazza hits two home runs for San Diego off Pedro Martinez.
