1962: The Mets sweep a doubleheader from the Reds, 9-1 and 3-2, at the Polo Grounds. A home run by Frank Thomas in the 14th inning wins Game 2 for the Mets.
1966: Ron Swoboda's three-run homer in the ninth gives the Mets an 8-6 win over the Giants at Shea Stadium.
1970: Nolan Ryan strikes out 13 batters and pitches a three-hit shutout in a 4-0 Mets win over the Cubs at Shea Stadium. Dave Marshall drives in three runs with a pair of doubles.
1982: The Mets defeat the Cubs at Wrigley Field, 7-4. Craig Swan hits his only major league home run and Joel Youngblood puts the Mets ahead to stay with a two-run single. Before the game ends, Youngblood is traded to the Expos and gets a hit for his new team in Philadelphia that night.
1985: The Mets defeat the Cubs, 4-1, at Chicago. Dwight Gooden sets a new team seasonal record with his 11th consecutive winning decision.
