1963: In his first major league start, Grover Powell pitches a four-hit shutout as the Mets defeat the Phillies, 4-0, in the first game of a doubleheader at Philadelphia. The Phils with the second game, 2-1, in 12 innings.
1969: Jim McAndrew pitches a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 Mets win over the Giants at Shea Stadium.
1985: Dwight Gooden strikes out 16 batters in a 3-0 shutout win over the Giants at Shea Stadium
1986: The Mets complete a sweep of a three-game series at Los Angeles with a 7-5 win over the Dodgers.
1987: Barry Lyons hits a grand slam and Randy Myers records five strikeouts in three perfect innings of relief in a 7-4 Mets win over the Giants at Shea Stadium.
1989: Howard Johnson hits his 30th home run of the season, joining Bobby Bonds and Willie Mays as the only players ever to achieve 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in two different seasons. The Mets lose to the Dodgers, 5-4.
2005: After squandering an eight-run lead, the Mets defeat the Nationals, 9-8, at Shea Stadium. Chris Woodward's single in the 10th inning drives home Gerald Williams with the winning run.
